Step 2

Make two cuts (approx. three inches long by one inch wide) on the end of the extension and move the tab back and forth until it breaks off. On the other side, make one cut the same length. Then cut across from the open space where the initial tab was cut over to the opposing side. To prevent kids, animals, etc. from accidentally cutting themselves you can trim the corners back, so it is not so sharp.

Step 3

Slide the extension onto the hinge with the open side facing up. Add three screws to connect the hinge to the extension. Slightly flare out the sides of the extension.

Step 4

Slide the clip onto the end of the extension. If the clip it too tight to go onto the extension, you can use a flathead screwdriver to widen the gap.

Step 5

Flip the extension up to the downspout. With a pencil, make a line where the extension meets the downspout.

Step 6

Approximately 1/4 inch above the line put a small amount of caulk. Place the center of the washer on the caulk. Then insert the screw into the center of the washer.
